A personal assistant should fit the way you work. It should understand the context you give it, use the tools you choose, and make it easy to see what happened between your request and the result.
Those ideas guide Friday's development. This is a look at the product priorities behind the desktop experience. For version-specific changes, see the release notes.
Make context easier to reuse
Returning to a project should not mean explaining it from the beginning. Friday brings together conversation context, saved facts and preferences, project instructions, knowledge base retrieval, and a structured wiki.
Each has a practical role. Project instructions can describe the result you expect. Saved preferences can capture how you like that result presented. A knowledge base can supply relevant passages from material you have collected.
The priority is useful context that you can review and refine as the work changes. The memory and workspaces guide explains the available ways to organize it.
Keep actions understandable
An assistant that works with files and tools needs to show its work. Tool activity in the conversation helps you follow the steps, inspect outputs, and decide what to do next.
Friday uses tool permission settings and approval prompts for gated actions. The experience should make those decisions clear: which tool is involved, what it is being asked to do, and what result it returns. Read the assistant and tools guide for the current behavior.
Preserve choice as the toolkit grows
Different tasks call for different services. Friday lets you choose providers for chat, voice, media, search, and storage, then extend your setup with Apps, MCP servers, and Skills.
The aim is to make those capabilities easier to use together around a real task. Writing a brief, researching its open questions, and creating its supporting media should feel like parts of the same project.
Be clear about background work
Repeatable work is a useful direction for an assistant, but it needs a clear distinction between what is available and what is still in progress.
Periodic health checks can run a checklist you define. Cron schedule records can be created and managed, but scheduled prompts do not yet execute an agent request. The automation guide documents those limits. Keeping that distinction visible is part of making the product dependable.
Keep the desktop at the center
Friday stores conversation history on your device without requiring a Friday cloud account. Tasks that call external services send the inputs those services need. Optional folder backups use your own S3-compatible storage.
That balance supports the broader direction: a personal assistant with context close at hand, tools you can extend, and choices you can understand.
