Apps are local HTML interfaces that open in dedicated Kucedr windows. Import a built app folder in Settings → Apps, then use Open on its card. Apps can use the Kucedr SDK for exposed host capabilities and app-scoped data.
The current desktop checkout does not contain bundled app source folders. Build an app in a separate project, then import its built folder or register it as an external debug app. Kucedr does not provide an app marketplace.
Workspace is a built-in view in the main Kucedr window, not an app installed through Settings → Apps. Open it from navigation or Settings → Workspace to browse agent workspace files in a tree beside a resizable viewer. Create, rename, or delete entries from the context menu. Markdown opens in editable Text and Raw views and saves automatically; other text and code are read-only. Images, audio, video, and PDFs have dedicated viewers. The Coding entry is marked Soon and redirects to Workspace.
App Package
Each app is a folder with a local HTML entry point. The recommended manifest.json format is:
{
"title": "Project Dashboard",
"description": "A focused dashboard for the active project.",
"metadata": {
"version": "1.0.0",
"category": "utility",
"entry": "dist/index.html"
}
}
All fields are required, and metadata.entry must resolve to a file inside the app folder. Kucedr can also read a standard package.json with a non-empty name, description, and version, plus a local HTML entry in main or exports.
Install And Manage Apps
From Settings → Apps, you can:
- Import one or more app folders.
- Browse installed apps by title, description, and category.
- Open an app in its own window with the separate Open action.
- Use Details to inspect metadata, its local path, and window settings. App cards themselves do not navigate.
- Refresh app discovery or open the apps directory.
- Delete an installed app after confirmation.
Window details include size, minimum dimensions, resizability, and maximization. Changed window settings take effect the next time the app window opens.
Importing copies the selected folder into ~/.kucedr/apps/<id> without node_modules. Reimporting the same ID replaces app files while preserving its existing data directory. Deleting an installed app permanently removes both its managed files and app-scoped data.
Debug An External Folder
The Debug section of Settings → Apps can register an existing app folder through the native folder picker. Kucedr runs its built entry directly without copying the source folder into managed app storage.
- Build the app before registering it; Kucedr does not start a development server.
- The manifest and entry file must remain inside the selected folder.
- The folder ID cannot collide with an installed app or another debug registration.
- Removing a debug app unregisters it without deleting the source folder.
- App-owned SDK data remains under
~/.kucedr/apps/<id>/dataand is not removed when the external folder is unregistered.
Partial. Settings does not currently provide an enable or disable control for installed apps.
Build An App
Use @kucedr/sdk for typed access to the host APIs exposed to apps, including theme, app storage, model capabilities, and window controls. Start with Build Your First App and use the SDK API Reference when choosing host APIs.
Apps are local web applications, so you can use plain HTML and TypeScript or any browser framework that builds to a local HTML file.
Trust And Data
Apps run in Electron's sandboxed web runtime, but installed code can still access powerful Kucedr APIs. Install apps only from sources you trust.
App-owned JSON values and files are isolated by app ID but stored locally in plaintext. Do not use app storage for passwords or provider keys. Kucedr does not expose provider credentials through the SDK.
